Having appeared before the Palikowka court [*], having had the Lord’s permission from the Lordship of Laki Manor, being sound in body and mind, not having been persuaded nor coerced by anyone, willingly and openly the Laborious Antoni Szufnarowski with his own words said what follows: that having a quarter of a field registered in the real estate registers to him and his successors with the Decree of 18 August 1783, and a second quarter of a field endowed to him long time ago by Wojciech Szufnarowski, his younger brother, given with the Lord's approval on 16 April 1784, and so this makes it a half-a-field. So with God's Blessing, he bequeaths this half-a-field to his daughter Zofia and her husband Mikolaj Rzasa for all times, and to their successors so they can hold it and use it without any hindrance from anyone; along with buildings which are located on the grounds, except for the komora and the coach house by the barn, two pigsties; those I, Father, reserve the right to for myself for ever; and I reserve the right to 15 zagony without sown seed in this half-field; located from widow Pankowa's balk; perpetually located zagony by Smuga and at the corner by Brother’s zagony, 5 of those; and I obligate my children to pay off my debt to Sebastian Gawel 24 Polish Zloty, to Krzemienice to Wojciech Lazarz 16 Polish Zloty and 3 maca of grain, according to the old measurement system, 2 maca of rye and one of barley; this bequest was done willingly and according to the law and I, illiterate, am signing it with the sign of the Cross.

Settlement of Maciej Lech
No 126
Having appeared before our Palikowka court, without being persuaded or compelled, openly and willingly, the Laborious Krzysztof Nowak hereby stated that, having a quarter of a field, from long ago called Pajowska, located on one side by Tomasz Gargos, and on the other side by Jozef Baszcz, and not being able to manage performing his royal, liege as well as other obligations, he incurred debts. And so this quarter of the field to Maciej Lech, brother-in-law, that is brother of my wife, I bequeath and endow under the condition that he pays off the debts incurred by me, that is to Mikolaj Rzasa, twenty three Polish Zloty and fifteen Groszes; to Widow Dziubkowa in Strazow thirty two Polish Zloty; to Wawrzyniec Gawel thirty five Polish Zloty; to Wojciech Kopec, thirteen Polish Zloty and twenty four Groszes; to Walenty Dziubek in Strazow twenty four garniec of rye; to Kazimierz Barzcz two Polish Zloty, and to Wojciech Wilk six Polish Zloty and eleven Groszes. –
And, for the purpose of securing food for my wife and children, from this Maciej Lech I reserve the right to use twenty zagon of this field, that is 6 zagon from Zagumnie[*] in the second stajanie, from Koszarka in the field 10 zagon in one stajanie, and in the second stajanie, next to the previous one, 4 zagon. I will sow those with my own seed and will work it myself.
I am retaining the house on the field grounds for myself and my wife and children. And after my and my wife’s death, I allow my children to be removed from the grounds, when I no longer leave them their right of habitation on those grounds. I am not leaving them the right to live on these grounds. I am selling one grain bin to the said Maciej Lech for thirty six Polish Zloty. I am making this bequest in such a way that none of my successors is to lay any claims to this land. But Maciej Lech, my brother-in-law along with his wife Katarzyna and their successors are to have this land for ever. And the said Marcin Lech promises to let son Maciej use annually 10 zagon each from his field, in the same way as Maciej [promised] Nowak [**]. This we sign with the sign of the Cross. This happened on 7th of February, 1790.

stajanie, or staje – Old Polish unit of area measurement (= between 1.2 – 1.5 hectares) – would this field have been divided into some parts, called first staje or second staje, and there were some zagons reserved from each part of the field?
zagon – a narrow and long strip of field, separated by furrows.
[**] Possible error in original. There is no other mention of any Marcin in this document. Perhaps Marcin was Nowak's son and the text should read:
"and the said Maciej Lech promises to let son Marcin use annually 10 zagon each from his field, in the same way as Maciej promised to Nowak"
Blazej Glowiak, a subject from Palikowka, having appeared personally in the Court Jurisdiction of Laki district, openly and willingly states with this transaction the following: that having a 3-day Zagroda in the village Palikowka, based on the bequest of November 15, 1793, given and granted to him in perpetual use by his Father Marcin Glowiak – this Zagroda located between the land of Mateusz Wisz and Wojciech Pietraszek, I am selling, giving and granting – and am bequeathing – for 600 Polish Zloty to Katarzyna, a sister who is to marry Wojciech Rzasa and to her successors, but on the following conditions:
1st – Wojciech Rzasa is to pay me 600 Polish Zloty for this Zagroda, and he is to do it immediately upon receiving the bequest papers, and I am confirming the receipt of such; however,
2nd – if Katarzyna, my sister, would not have her own children with Wojciech Rzasa, then after their death Blazej Glowiak is permitted to repay the money in the amount of 600 Polish Zloty and take back the land.
3rd. Blazej Glowiak is giving with this land a winter crop which has been sown, along with the house and komora, the plough, a few harrows, half a wagon, and the grey mare – but the stable and the barn are being left on this land, and the purchaser, or the one whom he transfers it to, is to pay 100 Polish Zloty to Blazej Glowiak.
4th. From this land, Marcin Glowiak is reserving the right to 40 zagon from Wojciech Rzasa annually until his death, and he is to live there rent-free.
5th. All obligations are to be paid and performed by Wojciech Rzasa beginning next mid-Lent.
This transaction for reassurance is hereby in the presence of witnesses signed by both parties who agree for it to be registered.

The Economy Supervision of Laki District is acknowledging the above transaction and is permitting for it to be registered in the District Registers. This happened in Laka on the 10th of March 1814.

In the presence of witnesses I, the undersigned, state with this receipt that I am being handed by Blazej Gawel and I am receiving from him 600 Polish Zloty in promissory notes for the purchase of Zagroda from Blazej Glowiak, as well as 100 Polish Zloty for paying off the buildings, and for that I give up to the said Blazej Gawel the succession after my father Mikolaj Rzasa and my mother of the following inheritance: I give a quarter of land and sell it in such a way that I don't and I won't have any claims to the inheritance left after my father – I sign this and permit to register this in Laka on 17 [month illegible] 1814.

This happened in the own house on the 12th of October 1839.
A voluntary cession of land, buildings, horses and other implements, for the benefit of Blazej Rzasa by Wojciech Rzasa, a subject from the village of Palikowka, in the presence of wojt of the village Palikowka, performed as follows:
I, the undersigned, being sound in mind, but feeling weak in my strength, due to my weakness, villein land and the farm [with a 3-day obligation?], marked with the topographical numbers 168, 180, 181, 1116, and 1117, a total of 14 morgas and 1406 sazen; this land, called Zagroda, is in my use based on the law of March 17, 1814, and as my own I am ceding it to my elder son Blazej Rzasa and his future wife Malgorzata, and to their successors; I relinquish, give, present, and bequeath for all times, along with the buildings standing on this land as well as one grain bin by the field, a couple of young horses, but not the wagon, also a good plough with all the implements, two harrows, all this I bequeath to my son Blazej Rzasa and his successors. I oblige my son Blazej to pay off 60 guldens in silver to my younger children, Marcin, Katarzyna, and Zofia, 20 silver guldens each, and for him to most diligently perform and pay all obligations; and in order to sustain mine and my wife’s life, I reserve for myself a corner located in the field, called the Dike, until my and my wife Katarzyna’s death; and I also reserve until my death half a pasture reaching to Pietraszek’s land. And Blazej Rzasa is not to cause us any distress. Other implements and buildings which I have not mentioned today, I leave for myself to dispose of at a later time. This is my free will, and I wish to keep it unchanged for ever so I am signing this with my own hand in the presence of the wojt, requesting honorable Lordship to kindly approve this and register in the Land Registers. And I, Mateusz Gawel, seeing the favorable heart of Blazej Rzasa who has taken a liking for my daughter Malgorzata, and wishes to take her as wife, I hereby allow her to enter into marriage with Blazej Rzasa, and bequeath part of my property for my daughter Malgorzata, and her future husband Blazej, and for their offsprings, I promise to build on the above Zagroda a house with a komora, a stable; [to give] enough thatch to cover one roof, two cows, one horse and I promise to pay 20 guldens off my land. This sum of 20 guldens in silver, I promise to count out myself and hand it into the hands of my daughter Malgorzata and her Husband, my future son-in-law Blazej Rzasa. I promise to present all this of my own good will, and I sign this in the presence of the honorable office.
