Orbiks in Zuśno in the Parish of Filipów

My research colleague Gregorz Krupinski found a record from 1746 from Zuśno in the parish of Filipów. It is a list of renters in the village. Included among this list were:

Wojtek Orbik, owning 1-2 Łan and paying 4 złoty and 6 groszy.

Marcin Orbik, owning 1-2 Łan and paying 4 złoty and 6 groszy.

Ther were several other surnames on this list that appear to have roots in the Augustów- Bargłów Kościelny parishes. Among them were:

Wysocki,  Wroblewski, and Sienko, and Kulik.

It is quite possible that these were early settlers of Filipów area after the Swedish Wars and plaques, much the way several Orbik families from the Augustów area helped found the town of Krasnopol.

Wojciech and Marcin Orbik from Zuśno were also mentioned in an article titled: Imiona Poddanych Klasztor Wigierskiego z 1745 Roku -Names of Wigierski Convent Subjects from 1745, by Maria Biolik in Prace Językoznawce, zeszyt X, 2008 published by the University of Warmia Mazuria in Oleszko.

Marcin Orbik is mentioned on page 15 and Wojciech Orbik is mentioned on page 19.

Apparently the village of Zuśno belonged to the Carmelite Monks who sttled on the island fortess on Lake Wigierski. This paticular work addresses first names of the villagers belonging to the monestary.

This work cites groundbreaking research done in the 1930 by Swedish researcher on the subject of Suwlalki land, peoples , and languages, Karsten-Olaf Falk.
