Biechowo

Biechowo  - a well  known place in the middle ages due to religious cult ;  the first pilgrims came from Sroda in the 16th century. From the earliest  times  it was the King s land  with castellan headquarters (in 1439  the castelan  was Maciej  Kot  from Naklo). Biechowo as an important town on the road between Poznan and Giecz. The first wooden parish church of St Peter had to be founded by a king. That church doesn't exist any more.

In the 14th century Biechowo was bought by the Doliwa family from Debno . Next in the 16th century the church was converted to Evangelical faith because of its owners the Pepowski family (who changed their  faith )  -  and  who ceased being the owners in1612.  He drove  Biechowo  & the church into the poor house (ruins). The  next owner was Swietoslaw  Smarzewski who took over Biechow in 1718 and he moved Filipins to Biechowa who came from Swieta Gora in Gostyn. They  reconstructed the church  &  monastery. The Filipins left Biechowo in 1804. Biechowo parish was equal in faith -  Polish  &  Catholics until the end of 19th century. In 1892 the Prussian commissariate bought part of  Biechowa land and moved German colonists there from Westfalia.  In 1906 there were   1027 Poles - Catholics,  498  Germans - Catholics,  50 Germans -Evangelics.
